Emilio played 1st board all season long. He anchored is team to a 1st place finish in the Michigan International Chess going 4-0. He came in 1st place at the Thinkers #3 tournament. Emilio also helped Detroit City Chess Club place 3rd in the high school section at the Queen City Chess Classic (Regionals). Coach Taliaferro says "Emilio has shown great leadership in his final year of his high school career." He has gained over 300 points this season. He has a peak rating of 1693 this season.
Ahmad played 2nd board this season for Martin Luther King High. This is Ahmad first time making the "Dream Team". Ahmad won 1st place at the Thinkers #2 tournament in he U1400 section moving his rating up over 125 points for that victory. He took 2nd place overall in the Thinkers series in the U1400. Coach Taliaferro says that "Ahmad has shown total commitment to his team in spite of holding down a job." Ahmad has gained almost 350 rating points this academic school year. He has a peak rating of 1625 this season.
Bryan is the only 3-time member of the Dream Team and is the highest rated scholastic player in the city of Detroit. Coach Fite says "he is definitely on his way to becoming an expert player by year's end and maybe even surpass former great Bates Academy player James Canty Jr rating of 20133 by the end of his 8th grade year next year". Bryan also helped secure a 5th place spot in the Open section of the Jr. High Nationals in Louisville, KY by winning 4.5 games out of 7. Bryan won all of his games in the Detroit Metro Scholastic League helping his team win 39 of 40 games to take 1st place in the Jr. High Division. He has a peak rating of 1872. He has a 4.0 GPA.
Cameron helped his team place 2nd in the nation in the U1600 section at the high school nationals. Cameron also went 4-0 at the Michigan International Chess Alliance State Championship. He helped his team win 2nd place in the high school division. Although Cameron is no stranger to the All-City Chess team this is his first time being placed on the "Dream Team". Cameron was also helped his team win the Detroit Metro Scholastic High School team winning 6 out of 7 games. In addition to Cameron's chess skills he maintains a 3.7 GPA. His ratings have increased over 250 points this season. He has a peak rating of 1507.
Woods,10, is the youngest member of the Dream team. She placed 1st at the Cleveland Scholastic Open helping Detroit City Chess Club win 1st place. She also took 1st place in the U1200 section at the Cleveland Open. Recently, Charisse took 1st place in her class at May Toledo Swiss tournament at the University of Toledo. She played 1st board at the Detroit Metro Scholastic league this season winning all of her games helping her team to a 3rd place finish. Charisse was recognized by Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan in his State of the City address. Charisse has a peak rating of 1354.
Ellington played 2nd board on a very talented team. Ellington took 1st place at the Thinkers #3 in he U1400 category bringing his rating up over 100 points. He went 7-3 in the Detroit Metro Scholastic League helping his team win the top Jr. High team within the Detroit Public Schools. Coaches Chris Sims & Ursula Byrd says "Ellington exudes confidence all the time," which is probably why he is a top student. He has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National Junior Honors Society. He has a peak rating of 1425.
Jaidyn has played 3rd board most of the season. She undefeated in the Detroit Metro Scholastic League helping her team to a 1st place finish overall in the Jr. High scection. She took 1st place in the Thinkers #1 tournament and gained over 120 points for efforts Jaidyn also gained well over 100 points in the U1800 section of the Motor City Open. She helped her team take 3rd place in the All-Girls Nationals in Chicago,IL. Coach Fite describes her as "tough as nails" on the board. She has a 4.0 GPA to go with her chess skills. She has a peak rating of 1489.
Kamauri won five games and had two draws at the High School Nationals helping his team to a 4rg place finish. Kamauri helped his team to a 3rd place finish in the Jr. High Blitz Championship. He also helped his team to a 1st place finish in the Jr. High Section of the Michigan International Chess Alliance State Championship winning 3 out of 4 games. Coach Fite says "Kaumari is one of the most humbled and determined young man I know". He won the Open section in the Roeper tournament. He has a peak rating of 1609.
Micale plays 1st board for the Bates Academy team. Micale is no stranger to the Dream Team - he was a member of the 2014 team. He anchored the team and placed 15th in the Open section at the Jr. Nationals winning 3.5 games. Micale also won 6.5 games out of 9 in the Detroit Metro Scholastic League where his team took 1st in DPS Jr. High and 3rd overall in the Jr. High section. Micale played in all of the Thinkers series tournaments this past season. Micale has maintained a 3.9 GPA this season. He has gained over 200 rating points this year. He has a peak rating of 1457.
Noah recieved 7 out of 8 points in the Metro Scholastic Chess Tournament. He placed 10th in the Queen City Classic Chess tournamet in Cincinnati, OH helping Detroit City Chess Club win 1st place in the Jr. High division. Noah came in 2nd place at the Michigan Scholastic Club Championship. Noah is carrying a 3.9 GPA. He is a member of the National Beta Club Society. This is Noah's first time on the Dream Team. He was captain of the 2014 1st team All-City Jr. High team. Noah has a peak rating 1471.
Stephen is no stranger to the Dream Team. Stephen was a member of the 2014 Dream Team and a 1st team All-City Primary team the year before. Stephen tied for 2nd place in the U1250 section at the Jr. High Nationals. He anchored his team which came in 3rd place. Stephen also received a Silver medal at the Elementary State Championships earning his team 1st place again. Stephen has a 3.77 GPA while holding down the 1st board. Coach Downs says that "Stephen works truly hard at practice and works just as hard on his own time." He has a peak rating of 1313.
Torrance was captain of the 2014 Dream Team. He played 2nd board all last season and won 1st place in the Jr. High section at the Queen City Classic Regionals. His winning 5 out of 5 games helped Detroit City Chess Club win 1st place. This tournament also helped push Torrance over the 1700 mark, making him the 2nd highest rated player in the city. He helped his team win 1st place in the Jr. High division at the Michigan International Chess Alliance State Championship by winning 3.5 out of 4 games. Torrance has a peak rating 1713.
